WHO WE ARE
Codettes (formerly Girl Force) is a not-for-profit organization that teaches game development skills to girls, women, and non-binary folks in the Ottawa area. Led by industry professionals, the Codettes team seeks to make the game industry more welcoming and accessible by offering free classes, holding social events to build community within the local industry, and through involvement with national and international events to support a message of equality and inclusion to the industry.
WHAT WE DO
Codettes is primarily an education and mentorship scaffold for girls, women, and non-binary folk looking to learn more about the game industry. Students enjoy the opportunity to learn from current industry professionals and get a taste for what it takes to develop games. Whether game-making is a career goal or just a hobby interest, students benefit from meeting and collaborating with like-minded peers, learn how to make something exciting, and build self-confidence in their abilities to create and problem-solve. Students do not require any previous knowledge of making games, only a willingness to learn and experiment. Codettes has partnered with the Capital Game Hub in the heart of Wellington West to be the home base for classes, providing students with an inside peek at what the game development industry in Ottawa is like.
